Pet Garden
In the Fall of 2018, a group of parishioners decided that a small circle of grass with a beautiful central shade tree in the church’s courtyard was the ideal place for a pet memorial garden. They worked hard preparing the space with elegant sea oats grass and a memorial header stone – a piece of left over stone from the present church. Plans for its dedication and consecration will be performed in the Spring of 2019. Flora Ocampo is our keeper of the garden.
Pet final services and memorials are an ancient practice dating to prehistoric times. In the Church of England, many grave markers can be found with pet names placed on them. The practice of honoring all God’s creation continues to ths day.
There are many passages in Scripture that can comfort us when our pet dies: IS 1:20-25,
Gen 1:20-25,30, LK12:6 and Rev 5:13 to name but a few. At St John’s we believe that our pets are important enough to us that we want them to have services of the church available to them and their guardians. We can help with final arrangements consisting of prayers, blessings, sharing of memories, poems, passages from Scriptures, in home pastoral care and appropriate music.
Your pets ashes may be placed in our Memorial Garden when you decide the time is right. We will assist with a small service at the Garden. Please call the church and speak to a member of the clergy for arrangements and further information. 316 262 0897
